Objectives:

- to develop pupils' speaking, listening and writing skills;

- to train pronunciation by practising a song, a poem and a chant;

- to review the usage of transcription;

- to review the present and past forms of the verb " to be";

- to present the facts for reading;

- to sum up the knowledge about the weather;

- to teach children to love and care about nature;

- to bring up a positive attitude towards the world we live in and nature we can admire.

PROCIDURE

I. INTRODUCTION

«T: My dear pupils, we have already learnt one of the most interesting topics. I t ' s "Seasons and Weather" and today we'll try our best to show a good knowledge of it.

II. WARMING-UP

T: To start with, we'll sing our song "Playing outside".

Hey, where's my sweater?

It's a cool and windy day.

I need a cap and sweater

to go outside and play.

Hey, where's my winter coat?

It's a cold and snowy day.

I need a coat, hat and gloves

to go outside and play.

Hey, where's my raincoat?

It's a wet and rainy day.

I need a raincoat and some boots

to go outside and play.

Hey, where are my shorts?

It's a hot and sunny day.

I need my shorts and some sandals

to go outside and play.

When the season changes,

The clothes I wear change, too.

No matter what the weather is,

I play outside. Don't you?

T: So, we are to play outside in any weather. And we know a brilliant poem by Cecil Spring Rice "The Weather". Let's recite it.

When the weather is wet,

We must not fret.

When the weather is cold,

We must not scold.

When the weather is warm,

We must not storm.

But be joyful together

Whatever the weather.

T: So, we like any weather and any season. What season is it now? What month is it? What autumn and winter months do you know? And now let's describe today's weather. Each of you has an opportunity to say a sentence.

III. MAIN PART

1. LISTENING 1

Before listening

T: Do you agree that the weather changes very quickly? So you have to listen, point and say (ex. 2, p. 43).

Today it's rainy. Puddles are everywhere. Yesterday it was sunny. On Tuesday it was snowy. Snowflakes were everywhere! On Wednesday it was cloudy. On Monday it was windy. Leaves were everywhere!

After listening

T: Now use the words you have heard and complete the sentences (ex. 2, p. 43 - additional task).

On Monday it was ... (sunny, windy, cloudy).

On Tuesday it was ... (snowy, sunny, windy).

On Wednesday it was ... (rainy, sunny, cloudy).

On Thursday it was ... (sunny, windy, cloudy).

On Friday it was ... (snowy, rainy, windy).

2. READING

Before reading

T: Hope you know that the weather differs greatly in different countries at the same time. For example, when it is summer in Ukraine, it is winter in Australia; when it is spring in England, it is autumn in Brazil. Now we'll read about the weather and what clothes people wear in different countries of the world. But, first of all, let's learn how to read some proper names. Repeat them after me and then match cities to countries.

1) Montreal;

3) Buenos Aires;

c) Argentina;

4) Seoul;

d) Canada.

While reading

T: Now let's read the text. While reading try to remember what the weather is in each country and what clothes people need to wear.

TEXT

Marie lives in Montreal, Canada. In winter, when it is cold and snowy, she wears a hat, a scarf and a warm coat. She also wears gloves and boots.

Angela lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When it is winter in Canada, it is summer in Argentina.  Angelan wears a T-shirt, shorts and sandals when it is hot and sunny.

 Pierre lives in Paris, France. In spring, when it is rainy, he wears raincoat and boots. He carries an umbrella, too. (He loves playing in puddles).

Lee lives in Seoul, Korea. In autumn, when it is cool and windy, he wears a jacket or a sweater, a shirt and jeans. He wears socks and trainers, too.

After reading

T: Answer the questions.

1. What is the weather like in Canada?

2. What does Marie wear?

Ex. 6, p. 45. (Ask and answer with your partner).

Ti And now let's divide the clothes according to the country where children wear them.

Ex. 4, p. 44.

3. PHYSICAL WARM-UP

SONG "CLAP YOUR HANDS"

Shake your head, shake your head,

4. GRAMMAR REVISION

T: Now it's time to show our grammar skills. We use "is" to speak about ... (the present) and "was" when we speak about... (the past). Right you are!

Ex. 7, p. 46.

Make up sentences using "is" or "was" and a weather word.

On Wednesday it . . . .

On Friday it . . . .

Today it . . . .

On Thursday it . .

On Tuesday i t . . . .

(is, was/windy, cloudy, rainy, sunny, snowy)

5. LISTENING 2

T: Listen to different weather presentations and match them to the pictures. (Pictures are prepared by the teacher beforehand.)

Ex. 11, p . 48.

  1. Mum, I want to play outside. - OK. But it's a windy day. Where's your jacket?
  2. What's the weather like today? - It's cloudy.
  3. I t ' s a hot and sunny day. - Yeah, it's a good day for the beach.
  4. It was rainy yesterday and it's rainy today, too.
  5. I t ' s a cold and snowy day. Wear your hat and gloves. — OK.
  6. CHANT

T: We tried hard to learn a poem, which sounds very unusual for us. It's a chant. So, now we are able to do it, don't we?

FAVOURITE SEASONS

Winter's rny favourite season.

It's the best of all.

I play in the snow or slide on my sledge.

In winter, I have a ball!

Spring is my favourite season.

It's the best of all.

I plant new flowers or play in the park.

In spring, I have a ball!

Summer's my favourite season.

It's the best of all.

I go on a picnic or swim in the lake.

In summer, I have a ball!

Autumn is my favourite season.

It's the best of all.

I jump in the leaves or ride my bike.

In autumn, I have a ball!

After reading

Ex. 12, p. 48.

In ... (spring, summer, winter), I like to plant new flowers in the garden.

7. SPEAKING

T: It's high time to present your creative works, your projects. What is your favourite season, Ivan? (Presentation.)
