Конспект уроку на тему: "Food in different countries"
- to present new lexical material on the topic of the lesson;
- to develop pupils' speaking, reading, listening skills;
- to encourage pupils to make projects;
- to teach pupils to work in groups;
- to foster pupils' thinking, imagination and attention;
- to extend pupils' world outlook.
Teaching aids and materials: textbooks "Enterprise 2" and "Enterprise I" by Virginia Evans, Express Publishing, pupils' project works, a tape-recorder, an additional text for reading from "Enterprise 1", cassettes for "Enterprise 2" and "Enterprise 1", a video cassette "Everyday English 1", a computer, 2 envelopes with pictures.
T: Today we are going to speak about food in different countries. Can you give examples of various dishes from other countries you can eat in our cafés and restaurants?
T: What do you like to eat?
Are you a good eater?
What do you have for breakfast?
What do you like for dinner?
What do you say when you want some salt?
What do you say when you want a cup of tea?
III. MAIN PART
1. SPEAKING. INTERACTION
T: Let’s speak about the food in Ukraine and table manners. Use the following phrases in our conversation.
I (don’t) know exactly…
I am (not) sure…
It seems to me…
As far as I can see…
If I am not mistaken…
I (don’t) think…
2. A ROLE PLAY "TABLE MANNERS"
Pupils work in groups of 4. One pupil is a waiter. Two pupils are having dinner at a café. While eating they talk about something.
One of them doesn't know table manners and makes some mistakes while eating. The mistakes may be in his/her speech or his/her behaviour at the table. The fourth pupil (a strong one) has to be very attentive to correct all the mistakes.
3. VOCABULARY PRESENTATION
To heat — нaгрівати;
to chop —шаткувати;
to peel —чистити;
to roast — смажити;
to slice — нарізати скибками;
to squeeze — вижимати (сік);
to stew — тушкувати,
to grate — терти на тертці;
to pour — лити;
to steam – варити на пapy,
a pastry – тістечко;
a pasty — пиріжок;
a rissole – зрази.
4. TEAM WORK
Pupils are split into 2 teams; each one receives an envelope with the pictures that show how to make a dish. Pupils should write the instructions to pictures. Then the captains of each team should put all their pictures in correct order according to these instructions.
Listen to the recipe and guess the dish.
Take some potatoes, carrots, an onion, a beet and cabbage. Pour some water into the sauce pan.
Put some meat and boil it.
Wash the vegetables.
Peel the potatoes, carrots, beet and onion.
Cut the potatoes into some pieces and add them into the boiling water.
Chop the onion.
Grate the carrots and beet.
Fry the carrot and beet with the onion.
Chop the cabbage.
Boil all the vegetables together and add some tomatoes.
IV. HOME ASSIGNMENT
T: Prepare project work about your favourite dish using pictures and material from the Internet.
